A modern Chinese calligrapher, David Chan, gets his art supplies from the kitchen. Chan is a Hong Kong native who lives in Shanghai. Chan's inspiration for using food sauces as ink came after a friend cooked him a plate of fried rice several years ago. He said the aromas and colors inspired him to paint. He has been using them ever since.
